Walk the Line

This was an amazing movie... one of the best movies I have seen in years probably; everyone, ya gotta go see it.

Ambiguous

I believe that a lot of MBAs are heavy on the book smarts... and kinda light on the street smarts. Hey, I'm there too and I recognize that I need to work on my "street smarts."

That being said, when it comes to graded homework assignments, some of my classmates have zero tolerance for ambiguity. It's to the point where I feel like the professor is sometimes hand-holding us through assignments because students want to know, "what exactly does professor XYZ mean when he says, 'blah-blah-blah." And I also think some of my classmates are so competitive that they won't even risk interpreting the ambiguous portions of an assignment in order to avoid being wrong and being penalized on their grades.

...Just an observation... but it does stimulate some curiosity. What happens to an MBA who has no tolerance for ambiguity in the classroom when he hits the real world and sees that life doesn't really work that way?

1st Semester Class Scorecard

Here's an analysis of the 1st semester core classes at Columbia... This rating is based on a weighted average for professor quality (.3), materials taught (.5), and value of assignments (.2) collected from a sample of students in my cluster. Just kidding, actually what you are getting here is purely my two cents based on a subjective view of the 3 criteria above. So, take it for what it's worth:

Corporate Finance A+
Marketing Strategy A
Financial Accounting B+
Managerial Statistics B+
Strategy Formulation B
Creating Effective Organizations C
Managerial Economics D+

This is just my opinion of our first semester's core classes. Many of my classmates would not score these classes the same. The finance kids think more highly of econ and less highly of Marketing. The consulting kids think more highly of the strategy class and not so much of stats.

I Bombed a Midterm

I don't mean "I bombed" as in ,"I'm just paranoid that I didn't do well beause I'm obsessed about grades and getting the highest grade in the class." Noooooooo, this is one of those tests where you're reading the question and asking yourself, "was I taught this at any point during the semester?"

Needless to say, I'm pretty sure this is one of the worst (if not the worst) tests I have ever taken. I think I finished about half the test and I'm pretty sure that I was wrong on the 1st half. It was pathetic and I was really bummed out about it. Anyway, I'm over it now and I can't believe I have to go through 5 more weeks of this particular class. It's utter torture to go twice a week.
